STAY INVOLVED – PUPPY UNIFORM PROTECTION SAFETY ACT
We recently had a visit from Lee Ann Calaway, Field Representative for Congressman Lloyd Doggett, who met with us regarding the Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety Act (PUPS) that Congressman Doggett has once again co-sponsored. We need your help to ensure that Congress brings this legislation up for a vote! The bill would close a loophole on the national level in the Animal Welfare Act that allows thousands of large, commercial breeders to sell puppies over the internet and escape licensing and regulation. Many of the “puppy-mill” dogs are forced to live their entire lives in small cages with no opportunity for exercise or social contact. PUPS would also require annual vet checkups of the breeding facilities and that dogs used for breeding be allowed to exercise outside their primary enclosures every day.
As a member of the Friends of Animals Congressional Caucus, we certainly have a friend in Congressman Doggett and look forward to working with him and his staff on all animal welfare and animal rights issues.
