Puppy Potty Training

Potty training a new pup can feel like a daunting task.

The good news is that it only requires routine and patience.

Here are a few tips to help:

1.Get OUT.

Puppies need plenty of opportunities to do the right thing. That means giving your new pup tons of outdoor time.

Get OUTTake your pup OUTside:

  • After she eats(meals and substantial snacks)
  • Before she goes to bed
  • If she whimpers or cries during the night
  • When she wakes up

Once your OUTside, stay with your pup until she does her thing. Praise the living daylights out of her once she pees or poops! If after a while, it seems like she doesn’t need to relieve herself, that’s ok- try again later.

2. What goes IN, must come OUT

What goes IN, must come OUT

After your dog eats or drinks, you should take her OUTside. The magic should happen within15-20 minutes.

You’ll set her up for success by having her in the right place at the right time!

3.Watch OUT

When you’re inside the house with your new pup, keep your eyes on her. A leash can come in handy for this. Or a lap. A lap can come in super handy, too.

This Just IN: Accidents Will Happen!

No one is born potty trained, and no one is perfect. Your pup is going to pee and poop in the house. When she does, clean it up quietly without speaking to your dog.

Never, ever, ever raise your voice or a hand to your dog. Be kind. This is a process.
