We’re leadership nerds at the Emancipet New School – always geeking out about new books, great TED Talks, and the most recent podcast a friend or colleague is keen on. Periodicially, we love to share those with you, so. . .a few of our faves below!

READ:
When two of the things I’m most passionate about in life came together in one glorious Harvard Business Review article last fall, I thought for sure all would be well with the world. While I might have put a little too much weight on those 1,700 or so words, I revisited the article recently and it’s still pretty great. So check out Bruce Springsteen, Artful Leadership, and What Rock Star Bosses Do – and give a thought or two to how well you serve, how clear your purpose is, and how adept you are at self-reflection.

WATCH:
Sometimes leadership means saying the hard things; and it always means holding the space for people to do the work and learning necessary to address whatever those hard things are. When it comes to the former, it’s as – or more – important that people hearing the hard things know with certainty that they’re being delivered with care; and with caring. Former tech exec, author, speaker, and consultant Kim Scott calls that radical candor – and shares a framework for how to practice that concept in this First Round Capital talk. Take the 20 minutes, you won’t regret it!

LISTEN:
Self-awareness is one of leadership’s most powerful tools. Knowing where you’re at, managing your hungers, monitoring your energy, all of these require being in touch with yourself and being able to be here now (here being wherever YOU are). ABC News anchor and author Dan Harris learned this lesson the hard way – by having a bit of a breakdown on national tv. Since then, he’s written two books on calming the mind and being present – and his companion podcast has some great guests and great conversations. Check it all out at 10% Happier online.
