Prescription FAQs

Your pet still needs to be examined by an Emancipet veterinarian in order to receive medications through our clinic or online pharmacy. The law requires that the prescribing veterinarian (or another veterinarian who works at the same practice) needs to establish and maintain a relationship with the pet in order to prescribe medications. However, if your pet has been seen at Emancipet in the last year, and had a negative heartworm test at a different vet recently, you can send us proof of that negative test in order to obtain medications that require a test before prescribing.

Emancipet sources our medications in the clinic direct from manufacturers allowing us to offer them at lower prices to our clients through our clinics only. Our partnership with the online pharmacy is to provide convenience and expanded access to receiving prescriptions through the mail for those unable to make it to our clinics as often.

Yes, a relationship with your cat/dog and our veterinary staff is necessary before online prescriptions can be approved.

We offer a variety of heartworm preventatives, flea and tick preventatives, ear wash solutions, and skin care products. We offer many products that we do not carry in our clinics for your convenience such as Trifexis, Sentinel, and Heartgard.

If purchasing medication at one of our Emancipet clinics, please be aware of the following:

  • Knowing the weight of your pet as accurately as possible is very important. Let us know if you think pet’s weight has changed from their latest weight recorded in our records. Our team can tell you what the last recorded weight was.
  • Please let us know if your pet is pregnant or nursing as some medication has not been determined to be safe for the babies.
  • Some flea, tick and heartworm preventive medication should be avoided if your pet has a history of medical conditions (such as seizures, liver or kidney disease).
  • A heartworm is a deadly condition if left untreated. Therefore, a heartworm test is strongly recommended but not required before purchasing heartworm prevention in our clinics.
  • Some preventives should not be combined with other medications. Please let us know if your pet is on any other medication.

If purchasing medication through our online pharmacy, please be aware of the following:

  • Some medications are not safe to give to pets that are pregnant, nursing, have heartworm, neurologic or other health conditions, or are taking other medication. Be sure to read all information on the product label prior to placing your order.

We are able to approve up to 12 months of product for our clients.

It usually takes 7-10 days to receive medications in the mail, however given high demand, currently shipping times are taking longer than expected – up to a couple of weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you’re having trouble logging on to the pharmacy, customer support can be reached at 877-738-4443.
