Emancipet’s highest priority is animal care and helping people help their pets. Some pets don’t have owners to help them, other owners don’t have the funds to help their pets when they need it. Below are some of our different success stories and funds we have set up to help create more of these successes (and happy pets!) in the future.

Sponsor an animal:

Some owners simply cannot afford the cost of getting their pet spayed or neutered. If you would like to sponsor a free surgery, rabies vaccine, and pain medication please click on the link below. It costs $70 to sponsor an animal.

Emergency Medical Treatment Fund:

Occasionally sick or injured pets will come to us for surgery and their owners don’t know they aren’t healthy enough. Sometimes these problems are not detectable before we do the surgery, and the animals end up having complications with surgery. These animals often need emergency medical treatment to ensure their survival - often times treatment the owner can’t afford. Emancipet, with the help of a local veterinary clinic, provides these services with volunteer vets and donations towards this fund.

Precious is a sweet kitty that came to us after someone found her by the side of the road. She didn’t appear sick on her examination, but as we were performing her surgery we started to realize something was wrong. She was having trouble breathing, and her heart was slowing down - almost to the point of stopping when we were done with her surgery. We immediately began giving her drugs to try to get her heart rate up, and began breathing for her. Our technicians rushed her over to a vet clinic in Austin, where they performed x-rays and found that she had a diaphragmatic hernia - her intestines had gone through a hole in her diaphragm and therefore she couldn’t expand her lungs well. She also had a broken leg that had healed - leading us to believe she had been hit by a car at some point in her life - causing the hole in her diaphragm. One of our vets went immediately to the clinic and volunteered to do surgery to repair the problem. This surgery normally costs around $2,000! Thanks to the doctor
volunteering his time and the vet clinic working with us and donation some supplies, we only had to pay $300 for everything. We used our emergency
medical treatment fund to pay this cost - without it we may not have been able to save this kitties life!

Me-Ouch Fund:

Surgical procedures such as spay and neuter are painful if not given proper pain medication. We give two separate medications, one for short term pain and one for long term discomfort. These medications are very expensive, and often times our clients can’t afford it. In the best interest of the animals, we give the medication to them at no cost. This is very expensive - approximately $5,000 per month is spent on these medications! Please donate whatever you can so that we can continue to give pain medication to the animals.

Sponsor a day of Spay/Neuter:

The City of Austin is our largest client - they sponsor free surgeries for low-income residents of East Austin on Thursdays and Fridays. This has dramatically helped decrease the number of animals coming into the shelter; a recent study found that from the zip codes we offer the free surgeries to we have decreased dogs coming into the City Shelter by 112 per month! Our mobile hospital goes to areas outside of Austin Monday - Wednesday. If you or your organization is interested in sponsoring a day of free surgeries please contact us at (512) 587-7729 or email emancipet@gmail.com
